A Message from NASW-DE President

Greetings Members,

I hope everyone enjoyed their summers and found some time to unwind.  We had a busy summer welcoming in our new board of directors, setting goals and planning for the upcoming year.  The board is energized and active.  We look forward to offering a multitude of events across the state for our members to join together, support each other and continue to grow as professionals.  As we welcome fall, we also welcome a full calendar of events that have been planned by our events committee.  Please join us at some of our upcoming events this fall around the state, including student led events, a networking event in Dover and Georgetown and a Mandatory Reporting training.   I hope to see you there!

We are still actively looking for members who are interested in volunteering their time to join one of our committees or fill the vacancy in the New Castle County Representative board position.  Our president elect, Elisa Mora, is chairing our committee on social justice and candidate elections.  She is looking for members who have ideas and interest in social action for Delaware.  We also always welcome interested members into any of our committees, including event planning, continuing education, membership and ethics.

I would also like to take a moment to welcome our new continuing education assistant, Lavay Glynn.  Lavay will be working closely with Michael Francum, the executive director, and Kathy Spencer, the member at large representative and continuing education chair, to implement and coordinate continuing education activities for our membership.

Sincerely,

Shannon Fisch,

Chapter President

DE Board of Clinical Social Workers Updates

The Delaware Board of Clinical Social Workers continues to work to update the regulations around professional social work at their monthly sub-committee meetings which follow directly after the monthly board meeting.  NASW DE executive director, Michael Francum, has been participating in these subcommittee meetings to represent the interest of our membership. You are invited to attend these monthly meetings to offer your input and participate in the decision-making process.  These meetings take place on the 3rd Monday of each month.  The board meeting will take place from 9:00am to 9:30am, followed by the meeting of the subcommittee.  Unable to attend?  You can also submit your feedback directly to the board at customerservice.dpr@state.de.us

Some of the discussions that have taken place are pertaining to the number and types of CE credit that will be required for social workers and clarifying the rules around supervision requirements. Once the board has reviewed and drafted the new regulations, there will be an opportunity for the public to comment on he completed document.
